Capturing a dropdown menu or hover tooltip is tricky because the UI disappears as soon as you click away.

The reliable approach is to use a delay capture.

TL;DR

  • Set a short Delay, start capture, then open the menu before the timer ends.
  • If you only need the menu: use Selected Area and drag tightly around it.
  1. Open the page in Chrome.
  2. Open Lliben and set a short Delay (a few seconds).
  3. Start the capture.
  4. While the timer counts down, open the dropdown / hover the element.
  5. When the capture opens in Lliben Capture, export to PNG/JPG/PDF or annotate.

Tips for clean menu captures

  • Zoom matters: if the menu text looks small, increase Chrome zoom before capturing.
  • Keep the background stable (pause animations if possible).
  • If you need only the menu area, capture a Selected Area and drag just around the dropdown.

When this won’t work

Delay is best for “visible area” captures. Some modes may ignore delay by design.

If your target UI is inside a scrollable container, scroll it into view first and then use delay.

Tip: If the dropdown closes when you move the mouse, try opening the menu with the keyboard (where possible) so it stays stable during the countdown.
